Lessons from Nature

I have just finished reading The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and in the very first chapter the author, Deepak Chopra, talks about the importance of nature. He says that we must get outside and connect with nature everyday in order to access that space inside us where our ‘pure potential’ lies.

This really resonated with me. I was brought up in the countryside and have completely taken for granted being outside in nature everyday. It was part of my life but I would never really stop to appreciate the beauty. I was there but not really present to it all.

When I moved to London in January the lack of nature suddenly hit me. Within a month I caught a bad cold and was in bed for a week, which was strange because I never get sick! I notice now that if I do not make an active effort to go and find a park or walk by the river then I start to feel disconnected and out of alignment, which eventually leads to me becoming sick. I lose myself and my health when I am not in nature.

I have taken this as a good lesson to appreciate nature when I am in it. I take my time to smell the flowers, listen to the river, and watch the trees in the wind. I soak in all the beauty around me.

When I am in London I still go and find ‘nature’ everyday. But for me it is not the same as being in a forest in the complete middle of nowhere or on top of a mountain. There is something so pure and raw about those experiences it is hard to express. I think when we are exposed like that our ego dissolves and leaves only our soul. We are one with nature, like we should be.

We can also find so much inspiration and creativity from nature, if only we have the eyes to see or ears to hear. Everyday nature is offering us gifts and most of us and too wrapped up in our heads to receive all the abundance mother earth is giving. The rain? That is a gift. The bird song? That is a gift. When we are in nature we have everything we need.

So please go outside today. Take a minute to smell a flower and receive that beautiful gift that is being offered. Then go share that gift, smile at someone, offer a compliment. However you want! Keep the flow of abundance and energy moving. If you share you will be rich.

“and in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.’
