Why I choose to be present.

I choose to be present. Everyday I am making this choice and everyday I am doing all that I can to remain in the present moment.

I will be honest with you, this isn’t easy. I am not 100% in the present moment, however with time and patience I am getting better at bringing my attention back to the Now.

Staying present is a little like using a muscle. The more you use that muscle the stronger it gets. The more you bring yourself back to the present moment the easier it gets. Eventually you can stay there.

I have noticed that when I am not present I feel dissatisfied and restless. I pick at the faults in my life and myself. I am not sure who I am.

The moment I return to the present moment, everything is fine again. I know who I am and I can be myself. The joy of the Now is with me and my life flows.

I noticed this yesterday, I spent the whole day feeling disappointed and I didn’t know why. I didn’t allow myself to feel my feelings because I wasn’t present to what was going on. Eventually in the evening I came back to the present moment and I was filled with gratitude and joy again. I went to sleep happy. Every time I woke up in the middle of the night all I could think was how grateful I was, and then I went back to sleep again. This is how I want to live.

What is the secret then? How can we be present? From my own experience all you can do is be patient and continue to bring yourself back to this moment. Be kind to yourself and with all the patience you can muster, return to the Now.

The things that make me most present in life are meditation, yoga, journalling, nature, other people, and difficult situations. Find what works for you!. 

I choose to be present so that I can really live my life.

  1. That’s so true and something that I’m really working on and not doing terribly well at. It’s hard … I spend way too much time reflecting on the past and worrying about the future – I guess this is pretty common?

    1. Yes I think we all feel like this! I always choose to be present but it isn’t always easy… I think it’s good just to remember that it is a practice and we shouldn’t be hard on ourselves if we are not present, all we can do is try again! It is amazing that you are working on being present though, it will make such a difference to your life!!
